Behind the Scenes with Emirates at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport will always have a special place in our hearts... as a Warwickshire-based travel agency it is our local airport and one of our most requested places to fly from by our clients. So we were very excited to receive an invite from Beachcombers and Emirates to visit the airport to see some new developments - and to step aboard the brand-new Emirates A380!

What are the changes at Birmingham Airport?

So much work has gone into improving the airport over the last year. The security area is being expanded with the installation of 3D scanners, which are going to be launched on 1st June. This will make Birmingham Airport the first major UK airport to allow passengers to carry more than 100ml of liquid in their hand-luggage, and you will no longer need to remove electronic gadgets from your hand luggage. This will make a much smoother and more efficient journey through security and a less stressful start to your holiday!

Once you arrive airside at Birmingham Airport you will be greeted by a variety of new coffee houses, restaurants, bars, duty-free shops, and a fabulous new set of lounges all with great views of the runway… there is a family-friendly lounge and an adults-only lounge as well as a few airline specific lounges - including an incredible new Emirates lounge.

These developments have encouraged various airlines to invest in Birmingham and there are now more routes available from Birmingham Airport than ever before. EasyJet have started flying from Birmingham for the first time to 26 destinations including Sharm El Sheikh, Tenerife, Barcelona, Berlin and Rhodes. Turkish Airlines have increased their schedule and Jet2 are adding more routes every time we check!

Flying with Emirates from Birmingham Airport

Emirates has introduced some exciting changes to their services at Birmingham Aiport. Passengers no longer have to head to London for long haul flights. You can now fly daily to Dubai from Birmingham and connect onwards to almost anywhere in the world!

The Emirates Lounge is exclusive to Emirates flight announcements making it a lovely chilled out space to relax before your holiday. Emirates flights from Birmingham have an Economy, Premium and Business Class option, with each category offering fantastic comfort. In Business Class you can select your seat set up with options for a private screened off space or even a love seat! There are some absolutely delicious food choices with menus available. There is also an Emirates air bridge to save you climbing up and down the steps in the chilly Birmingham air!

The Emirates A380

Our visit to Birmingham Airport included an invitation to board and view the new A380 plane! Although the A380 won't be flying from Birmingham, you will be in for a treat if you do find yourself on an Emirates flight from Heathrow.
 

The Emirates First Class offer is incredible! There is a bar area with seating with belts so if there is turbulence you don’t need to return to your seat, plus a large TV screen which will play live sport and movies. There is also a full-size bathroom, complete with a shower and dressing area.

Our Experience at Birmingham Airport

It truly feels like Birmingham has launched itself into the world-class airport category. We are particularly excited by the changes to security and the ability to take more liquids and not fully unpack our hand luggage at the Security gates - and it is amazing that Birmingham will be the first airport in the UK to offer this! The lounge spaces are all contemporary, relaxing environments and the general airside area has received an impressive glow-up! The investment from various airlines - most notably Emirates - speaks volumes about their long-term commitment to the Midlands.
